The school office has reopened this week and Mrs. Vorland, Mrs. Hayes, and I are busy getting ready for another school year. Our first day of school is Wednesday, August 18th. We are dismissing at Noon on the first two days, and lunch is not being served. We are still looking to hire additional help in our cafeteria. Please pass the word.
The start of a school year is always met with excitement and some anxiousness, and this year it feels like both of those emotions are doubled. I could not be more supportive and optimistic about the future of Dual Language Academy sharing our building and hopefully partnering in our love of the Catholic faith and our academic rigor. This partnership has so many advantages: the sharing of resources, more professional development for our staff, and more participants in our younger sports programs to name just a few. The Dual Language Academy School office is located across the hall from the SJA school office. Mrs. Angie Smith is the principal and Lucia Barrantes is the administrative assistant. I anticipate a very collaborative leadership team.
I have been fielding many questions about what health protocols will be implemented this school year. If you have been tuned into the local news, you know that there is no shortage of opinions out there as to what is the best way to operate your school safely. As of today, August 3rd, no final decision has been made for Saint Joan of Arc School. Mrs. Smith follows guidelines from the Consortium Board, and I make decisions with the support of Fr. Lorig. I am hopeful that we will all come to the same conclusion as to our best path forward.
I am attaching the school calendar and supply list. Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 15th. The Knights of Columbus will be serving free pancakes starting after the 8:00 mass and wrapping up when everyone is served after the 10:30 mass. Parents can drop off school supplies in their child’s classrooms from Noon until 1:00.
